A Speedeet & Wilar Easter Story


The wind on the seawall was the kind of wind that only comes at Easter — strong and steady, blowing straight off the Atlantic with a cool saltiness that made your eyes water and your kite string hum.

Speedeet had her kite up first. It was red and gold, shaped like a diamond, with a long tail of yellow cloth strips that her grandmother had cut from an old dress. She held the string tight with both hands and watched it climb — higher, higher, until it was a bright spark dancing against the wide blue sky.
